Afterschool Enrichment Coach

AIC Afterschool Connector @ Duggan Academy

ABOUT US: 

The AIC Afterschool Connector Program provides middle and high school students with a safe, supportive, and engaging environment after school. Our goal is to offer activities that spark curiosity, build skills, encourage creativity, and create opportunities for exploration and personal growth. Through these experiences, students gain confidence, discover new interests, and develop a strong sense of belonging within their community.

After-school programming will be developed with great intentionality and in direct response to student needs and interests with a focus on improving learning and social-emotional outcomes. The following characteristics will be the baseline for all programming/Clubs offered to students:

  • Programs will be high-quality and project-based enrichment activities.
  • Programs will be designed to include learning opportunities/skills development.
  • Programs will be designed to enhance student learning and their motivation to learn.
  • Enrichment programs will be led by a team of Afterschool Enrichment Coaches 3 days per week from approximately 2:20-4:20 pm.
  • Specialized instructors will be incorporated into the program sessions for special workshops, clinics & events.

DESCRIPTION:

After-School Enrichment Coaches will be responsible for planning and implementing an organized, PURPOSEFUL schedule of activities that actively engage student participants and support their bodies, minds, and souls. Programming activities will include visual arts, STEM, nutrition & cooking, sports (depending on program site/facility access), and more.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Arrive prepared at assigned afterschool program in the location and at the time designated.
  • Plan and implement interactive, project-based learning activities using research-based best practices that engage students in multiple modalities of learning and interest of students. Submit plans for review and feedback.
  • Document and submit regular student data including daily attendance, incidents, and feedback.
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment that is appropriate to the maturity and interests of students and conducive to learning.
  • Foster positive and supportive relationships with students by actively engaging with all students, particularly those who may feel like outliers.
  • Support students’ learning process by establishing clear objectives for all lessons, activities, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Consistently monitor and adjust based on feedback to better engage and meet the needs of students.
  • Communicate with school faculty and parents as needed with advisement from leadership.
  • Inventory all supplies and equipment and ensure they are well maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience working with urban youth in a program setting required -- babysitting does not count.
  • Prior experience working with middle or high school youth highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with youth and demonstrate cultural competence.
  • Demonstrated interest and expertise in enrichment content such as painting, drawing, sports, board games
  • Student-first mentality and growth mindset
  • Must be highly organized and know how to plan activities within resource and time constraints.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work 3 days per week in the afternoons from October 6 - May 18 (excluding some weeks for holidays, school breaks)
  • Bilingual interns (Spanish) are strongly preferred.
  • MUST HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: 

  • Undergraduate students in their junior or senior year with a major in sports & recreation management, education, psychology, sociology or another related field.
  • Graduate students pursuing a degree in education, psychology, or another related field.
